I am at a lost for words right now on this topic. It seems to be the hardest topic thus far for Top Ten Tuesday posts. In the moment of reading a beloved novel you always think of how memorable the secondary characters are and that sometimes you love them more than the main characters. BUT when you’re required to recall those beloved characters – POOF! you can’t.
Hence my current problem. Nevertheless I am trying my hardest to see if I can come up with ten names of favourite secondary characters.
NOTE: This list is by no means in any specific order.
#10: Magnus Bane – although we find him in many, if not all of the Shadowhunter novels, Magnus Bane has become by far my favourite snarky, sarcastic and worldly warlock of Brooklyn. As a memorable secondary character there is not better, or more frequent than Magnus Bane!
#9: Choal Westfall – if this name is not familiar to you, let me refresh your memory: “Throne of Glass” by Sarah J. Maas, Captain Westfall makes an appearance, or two (; He was at first not my favourite character always so stuffy and uptight about everything but as we learn more about Celaena so to do we learn more about Captain Westfall. Even though he is incredibly rude, and sometimes mean to Celeana deep down he definitely has a heart of gold, that perhaps beats a little quicker for her? (one can only hope!)
#8: Captain Thorne – another Captain to hit the list, Thorne takes centre stage in “Scarlet” by Marissa Meyer along side Cinder on their mad dash out of the common wealth prision. Thorne is one of those character that you can’t help but laugh with and find incredibly foolish but still love. He had this nonsensical ego about him that I couldn’t help but love. He was such a guy!
#7: Seth – from “The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden” by Jessica Sorensen I bring you Callies best friend from college, Seth. How can I explain him, well he for one is outrageously random, and headstrong; an act before thinking kind of guy with the comic relief a story like this needs. He brings this type of strength to the story but also these outrageous one liners you need to double back and read over. PERFECT best friend material and memorable secondary character material.
#6: Dani O’Malley – from the Fever series, and her own series “Iced” by Karen Marie Moning. I remember Dani as this smart mouthed, teenage know-it-all through the Fever series but she made Mac one heck of a side kick! She had all the vulnerability of a young girl but all the spunk of a fiery redheaded teenager as well. She was a great mix into the Barron-Mac drama that ensued throughout the novels. Although she was naive and childish sometimes, she definitely deserved her own series of novels continuing after Mac & Barron’s story ended.
#5: Vee – “Hush, Hush” by Becca Fitzpatrick has delivered us the bodacious and hormonal Vee! Nora’s best friend – ever (seriously they give the meaning to BFF’s) is just one of those girls who has about only three things on her mind which don’t include tomorrows history assignment but more so boys and activities done with boys. She is hilarious in the “one track mind” mindset. She also plays the “clueless” friend in the saga, in which the reader ends up feeling sorry for the character not being in on everything, but not Vee! She may be clueless but nonetheless she is the over protective, hormonal bestfriend looking out for her love sick gal pal!
#4: Vischous – from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward (18+) comes one of the most memorable best “bros” a guy could ask for. Butch a new member of the BDB is who Vischous is “bro’s” with; I use that term because it the only way to describe their best friend till the end vibe you get from the two of them. Vischous would do anything for Butch and vice versa; he is your usual drinking whisky, playing pool, watching sports kind of dude – that could kill you with a look if need be. These two ALWAYS stick out in my mind if I had to name a “bro’s before hoe’s” friendship (LOL!).
SADLY I can only think of 7 names to put on my most memorable secondary character list. It is either, I have a horrible memory and cannot recall any of my favourite secondary characters, or clearly I need to read more to be introduced to such characters!
Let me know who you think should be on my “unfinished” list of characters! Comments are always encouraged (:
